I am feeling particularly happy today, I am with family and about to have a filled day in New York just hopping from one store to the other. I have been postponing this post for a while (for no particular reason) but I woke up this morning and I just felt it was the right time to get it out.
So today we are going to talk about getting a life & mind detox.
What is a life detox? According to the dictionary, a detox is the process or period of time in which one abstains from or rids the body of toxics or unhealthy substances, so a life detox is basically getting rid of any harmful substances in your life in order to help you function properly.
A while ago, I realised I was in dire need of a life and mind detox because I felt like I was stuck and not able to think or just be productive in any sense and I just wasn’t having that! These steps have really helped me, I definitely have a clearer mind I am just loving each day more..
DO NOT DWELL : It is easy to sit and wallow in self pity and anger when something doesn’t work out the way you wanted or expected it to, but it is definitely more challenging and fun to turn all that anger and self pity into something that does work for you! Over the years, I have learnt that self pity is easily one of the most destructive features anyone can posses. All that “why is it always me?” “why can I not be like so and so” “why is my case always different”..nah boo, stop it! What you need to be doing is trying to figure out how to not be in that situation again, learn from your mistakes, don’t let it break you.
TAKE TIME FOR YOURSELF : This is probably the most important step in getting a life detox, you want to take time out to pamper yourself and all in round take care of your body and mind. I am a big fan of pampering myself, any chance I get I run off to get pampered simply because there is this sort of “I can conquer the world now” feeling that comes with it. Now, not everyone might be into that but do whatever makes you feel at ease, whatever makes you feel like you’ve got your mojo back!
WRITE IN A JOURNAL : I personally write everywhere, from my phone to my laptop, pieces of paper, anywhere! It is important to put feelings on paper as it helps you understand them better. I was not the biggest fan of writing as I thought I was never able to get the right words to express how I felt but it’s not about perfection, its about writing it just the way you feel..forget about the grammatical errors (it’s not like you are sharing it with the world anyways) and just let it flow…PEN TO PAPER.
SAY BYE TO NEGATIVE ENERGY : I can never over emphasize how important it is to get rid of negative people around you. You can never move if you have negative people constantly feeding you negative thoughts and bringing your spirit down in general, you gotta let them go and never look back! Never feel bad for doing what’s best for you! Yes, I know some friends are really difficult to let go but over the years, what value have they added to your life? Do they support your goals or do they just raise their noses every time you make an attempt to move forward? This life is too short to not have supportive and positive people around you.
SET GOALS : After doing all this, you realise you now have room to breathe and get moving. This is the time to set new goals and make new lifestyle changes, it is time to take those baby steps to becoming a better you!
