WHO CARES?
Hey guys,
So I was surfing through instagram the other day and I came across this picture/quote and I thought to talk about it as it is something I ultimately relate to.
I am one of those people that are afraid of falling or failing, I mean if I’m not 99% sure I am going to succeed at a particular project/task, I don’t bother embarking on it. As a result of this, I have missed out on so many opportunities and to say I regret now is a bit of an understatement.
I know there are lots of people out there like me constantly doubting their capabilities, asking questions like “what if I fail?” “what if I’m just so terrible at it that everyone laughs at me?” “what if I’m not good enough?” Well, who cares?
We live in a world where things are constantly changing and people are moving forward. Don’t be that girl/guy that doesn’t move with the world boo. You know that thing you’ve always wanted to do? Go do it. That place you’ve always wanted to visit? Save up and go! Walk up to that guy/girl you have a secret crush on and say hi! Forget what people think and live YOUR life!! No one is going to hold a gun to your head if you don’t succeed so how about you start and take it from there (take baby steps).
Let me tell you guys what happened to me this one time. So I was at a typical Lagos party surrounded by influential people in the entertainment and fashion industry and guess what I was doing, I sat in one corner with a glass of wine and just observed. I refused to socialize and trust Nigerians, no one is coming to that corner to get to know you or offer you a business opportunity. Anyways long story short, I summoned courage and walked up to this friendly looking lady (you always aim for the friendly looking ones), said hi and that was it. I found out she worked for a Nigerian fashion label and at the end of that conversation, I had a new friend and access to backstage action at Lagos fashion and design week. So there I was thinking, what if I had tried this earlier? I’ll tell you for sure that I’ll be singing a different tune by now.
I know most times it is easier said than done but no one ever gets it right the first time anyways so how about you just try? One thing I can tell you for sure is everyone out there has a struggle of their own, everyone is trying to figure out their place in this world too so no one is sitting around waiting for you to fail just so they can laugh (except witches and wizards)
It’s also very important to surround yourself with people that encourage your ideas and are interested in helping you grow, you may not know it but their positivity and continuous support will help you go a long way. Last but definitely not the least, never see your falls as failures but as lessons learned.
“The world moves at such a rapid rate that waiting to implement changes will leave you two steps behind”
We also overlook the alternative, WHAT IF YOU FLY INSTEAD?
