I Quit My 6 Figures Tech Job To Travel for 1 Year

In 2023, I did a thing and quit my 9-5 job. I posted about it on my social channels. I got so many messages (both congratulatory, inspirational and otherwise) that it made me realize there were a lot of other people out there who wanted to be able to do the same thing.

Before I went on a sabbatical leave, I was a Senior Enterprise Customer Success Manager at a reputable IT services/tech firm. In addition to that, I was a Content Creator on the weekends, and I found so much joy in doing both. However, in 2022, I woke up one morning and lost the zeal to do anything.

At that moment, I knew that I was physically, emotionally, and mentally exhausted and that a 2-week vacation wouldn’t cut it. I decided in January 2022 that for my 30th birthday (Jan. 2023), I would gift myself a sabbatical, and take an adult gap year off working a corporate 9-5 job. This started as a pipe dream, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I could do it if I was super disciplined and focused on this goal.

Needless to say, leaving stable paid employment was the scariest thing I ever did, but in April 2023, I handed in my resignation letter and looked forward to a year of travelling, chasing other passions, resting and loving on myself harder than I have ever done.

I shared a lot of information behind how I prepared for this big decision in a YouTube video.

Till next time,

A.R.E
