MY SKIN CARE ROUTINE
I’ve been lucky these past few months to find what works for my skin after trying and failing for what feels like forever! I thought to share because it might just help someone out there!
I have combination/normal skin, meaning I’m oily in my t-zone and normal everywhere else. My main concerns are keeping acne at bay, getting rid of blemishes, improving texture & brightening. All products I use target either one or a combination of these things.
Disclaimer: Every product mentioned in this post has been tried and tested by me. I stand by my recommendations but it is important to remember that what works for me might not work for the next person and that’s okay. Although the steps are generic, it’s best to use products that are tailored to the needs of your skin.
Cleanser: Because of my skin type, it was important to find a cleanser that catered to both parts without over-drying my skin. My current favourites are the Neutrogena All-in-One Acne Control Daily Scrub & Acne Stress Control Power Cream Wash. The former is a daily exfoliation scrub while the latter is a silky face wash. They are both formulated to target past, present & future acne for a clearer & healthier looking skin. I cleanse twice a day. I’ve used them for almost a year and I don’t think I’m stopping anytime soon. I also have my eye on the Ole Henriksen Empower Foaming Milk Cleanser
Tip: If you have acne prone skin, use a wash containing glycolic & salicylic acid to help eradicate dirt and dead skin cells trapped in pores while fighting against acne & blemishes.
Serum: The benefits of a serum ranges from skin brightening to improving texture and even anti-aging. Because one of my major aims is getting rid of dark spots formed from earlier acne and improving texture, I lean towards serum and moisturizer with Vitamin C & E. The Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster has done wonders for my skin. Recently, I started using the Invigorating Night Treatment Gel to switch things up a little.
Moisturizer(s): There is no reason for you to have a moisturizer without SPF in 2016. No reason. For day time, I use the Murad Essential-C Day Moisture & at night, Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Night Cream. I recently incorporated the Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation to my morning and night time routines. Sometimes, it’s okay to mix and match products so your skin doesn’t get too familiar with a particular product.
Face Masks: Depending on what my skin needs at that moment, I either reach for a pore minimizing, brightening, detox, hydrating, or exfoliating mask. My countertop is actually a home of masks. My favourites are Lush Mask of magnanimity, Sheet Masks & Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask
I recently tried the Ren Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask at a Sephora facial and I’ll definitely be adding it to my routine.
Make-up Removers: As much as I love a good face beat, the best part of my day is coming back home and taking it all off. I made the switch from make-up wipes to oil based removers because I realized how much the former dried my skin up. I use the Boscia Makeup-Breakup Cleansing Oil but coconut oil also works just fine.
Aside this routine, I try to live a healthy lifestyle by eating right and occasionally visiting the gym. Your skin is as good as what you put on the inside. Drink water & green tea regularly, stay away from unnecessary oils as much as you can and befriend veggies!
If you want an in-depth review of any of the products mentioned, please let me know in the comment section below!
Till next time….
