WITH LOVE, ALMA

THE ALMA CHRONICLE TURNS ONE TODAY!!!

I am so happy for the support this blog has gotten the past year, I never expected it but you guys have been wonderful and I am so so grateful!

Sitting on my desk, drawing up plans and writing out my goals concerning the blog for the new year has me all jiggy inside and a lot excited!

The first year owning this space was not easy at all! I sat many times and wondered “Alma, what is your blog really about?” “Are you going somewhere with this or it’s just a higi-haga movement?” I had to explain the contents of my blog to a few people and noticed I always got tongue-tied when I get asked “so what is The Alma Chronicle about?”

I’ll say this. I honestly did not know what my blog was about, not until sometime last week if I’m being honest. It’s not a fashion blog because sincerely, I do not think I know enough about fashion to have my blog centered around it, I like putting clothes together, looking good & documenting it but we all know that’s not what fashion’s about. I cannot say I am a lifestyle blogger either because I am really private when it comes to my personal life and I don’t think that’s a luxury lifestyle bloggers possess. Beauty blog? LOL. So what is it really?

I’ll tell you guys this. I wanted a blog and I started it. No complicated reason, no story behind it, I wasn’t sure of the content I wanted to put out, I literally just woke up one day and thought to document bits and pieces of my personal style, beauty tips and everything in between, so I did.

I used to believe blogging is something that should be done for fun, like a hobby, but I’m having a rethink on that. If I love something so much, there is no crime building a career around it, right? Every blogger advises that money shouldn’t be the sole reason for blogging but trust me it’s written somewhere “MAKE MONEY AND BUILD STRONG CONNECTIONS OFF THE ALMA CHRONICLE” and I don’t feel bad for it, instead it motivates me more.

I spent the first year doubting myself and every content I put out instead of working harder to get across to my desired audience. I can tell you for sure that that’s not happening this year. I’ve had the opportunity of meeting fellow bloggers and drawing inspiration from different types of people with rather interesting goals. Also, my friends and family have been such an amazing support system that it’ll be a shame to let that go to waste.

“inhale confidence, exhale doubt”

People out there looking to start a blog and not sure about the content to put out, well I can tell you for sure that if you worry too much, you’re really not going to do anything. If you have something to say or share and you have a platform to do so, then take advantage of it. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a blog, it can be Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, etc etc

Forget the side comments like “oh everyone has a blog” “what makes you feel anyone will read your blog?”. Trust me, as long there are people like me out there that discover new blogs as a hobby, someone will definitely read your blog and acknowledge your work.

For upcoming bloggers, TRY NOT TO COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHER BLOGGERS! One thing we always forget is the people we look up to in the blogging world have probably been doing this for years! Your pictures will not be as perfect, your content might not be as structured, your views will definitely not be as much as theirs and that is okay. You comparing yourself to other bloggers will only put the fear of disappointment in you. Everyone delivers their content in a different way and the moment you try to be like the next blogger, you have lost the plot really. It’s okay to have bloggers that inspire you, I personally have so many but that doesn’t mean I am trying to be them, I can only be me, Alma.

This epistle doesn’t apply to bloggers only. Our generation is filled with creatives and innovators that hide behind a self destructive shell and mentality of “I cannot do it”, “what will people say?” “will I be heard?”..if you don’t blow your trumpet, how exactly do you plan to be heard?

If you are looking to start or do something you’ve always wanted, then now is the time to do it. Don’t overthink or over analyze it, just start it. Set realistic goals, talk to your friends and family about it, turn to social media (never underestimate the power of strangers on the internet), be organized, put yourself out there all the time, believe in yourself, work, work, work! It’s not going to be an easy journey but trust me it’ll be worth it.

I’m really happy today because I made the decision to try. It may not seem like a lot to the next person, but to me, it’s everything!

” Don’t waste precious time entertaining the possibility of failure, every great accomplishment begins with the decision to try”

Love, happiness & more love..

xx
