THE MINIMALIST’ WAY

“There is a tremendous confidence in facing a hostile world with a good outfit”

Lately, I spend my spare time searching the web for articles on the impact of minimalism on modern fashion.

I’ve come to a few realizations.

  1. Beyond the unrelatable level of creativity & perfection at runway shows, and peacocking gestures captured perfectly by street style photographers, a lot of people who work in fashion are dressed in black 90% of the time.
  2. Minimalism isn’t exactly simplicity.

Minimalism is a style/technique characterized by extreme sparseness or simplicity. In the areas such as art and design, it is a well-defined concept, but has been perfectly applied to fashion in recent times.

Perhaps this is the reason the 90’s fashion era solely equates the term to bare monochromatic colours and the simplest of outfits. Apparently, we are all wrong. Read here

On a few occasions, I’ve stumbled across articles reiterating that minimalism is a way of life and not just a perfect monochromatic Instagram and Pinterest timeline. It’s about embracing the concept of having less but making sure that everything you do have fits your lifestyle perfectly. In other words, a minimalist lives life with the essentials.

Being a minimalist can be applied across all aspects of life, but I, find it more dominant in my personal style. Lately, I’ve refined and curated my wardrobe to reflect my signature look by investing in pieces that are simple, self expressive, functional, versatile and of great quality.

This post features pieces I consider staples in my wardrobe. You can never go wrong with a black midi dress. Depending on the occasion, it can be dressed up or down. For this look, I paired it with another wardrobe staple, a black barely there sandals and threw on an oversize jacket. For a more relaxed look, switch up the heels for a pair of converse and you’re good to go!

I love this look! I don’t consider myself minimalist, but it’s a goal I’m working towards – being content with little.
One key thing I picked from this post is this – if you’re going to go minimalist, get ready to invest.

That is one thing a lot of people overlook, being a minimalist means a lifetime of investing! Thank you girl!

    Style Domination

My wardrobe is 90% black. LOL! I have come to love white, so I have been buying a whole load more white pieces, along with grey, blush pink and cream. I bought a cream cashmere sweater that is to die for. While crazy expensive, I’ll have it for life.

While I love the current trend of minimalism, I’m a bit of a “maximalist” myself. I love red lips, long nails, gorgeous cars, big houses, luxury, fine food, fine wine…if it’s fancy…it’s golden in my book. Hahaha!

    Fab pics too, my love!
