STYLE DIARY II: LAGOS, NIGERIA
Visiting Nigeria for me ultimately means wearing Nigerian Brands. I did a post here, following my visit to Nigeria last year, showcasing some of my favourite outfits from upcoming Nigerian designers. This time around, I had the pleasure of working with different set of brands, some upcoming and some established, but all round amazing.

1. Demure by Denike
Okay, let me put you guys on the wonder that is Demure by Denike brand. I met Adenike on twitter a few years back when she was a fashion student in Milan & I’ve watched her grow from a student with rough sketches to the amazing designer that she is now. As soon as I confirmed my trip to Nigeria, I knew I had to hit her up to make a few pieces for me. I love that Demure by Denike combines the colors and African prints with European silhouettes and cuts to bridge the gap for younger African women.
Somehow, Adenike convinced me to wear this mixed print two piece to the GTBank Fashion Weekend and I’m so glad I did!

2. Shop Maju
Shop Maju is that brand for the typical everyday girl. From trendy pieces to wardrobe staples and accessories, there’s something for every girl on Shop Maju. I’ve been wearing pieces from this brand even before I became a Style Blogger, I remember my first purchase was the “Alma” kimono jacket & I have it till this day. When I decided on a collaboration, it was important that I chose a versatile piece from their new collection to showcase. Living in Lagos as a young professional ultimately means curating wardrobe pieces that transition from your day job to after work drinks effortlessly. This Ivy Blouse was part of their recent collection with Influencer, Kehinde Smith.

3. Yxclusive Style
Yxclusive Style is a Nigerian fashion brand which makes simply beautiful yet affordable ready-to-wear ankara pieces which include dresses, tops, skirts etc. The brand has a very simplistic approach to everyday outfits for women using ankara to create pieces that are very colorful and give sexy vibes. Prices range from ₦3,500 and above.

4. The Nalé Girl
Did I think I’d be spotted in a pinafore in 2017? A big NO! I’ve had this brand on my radar since their launch earlier this year. I was gifted this Pinafore from their new collection as well as their popular Rosa wrap dress. I would definitely say that my favourite piece was the pinafore because of all the different ways I’m able to style it. For this post, I’ve paired it with a white button down shirt, barely there sandals and a mini purse.

5. Elvira Jude
Elvira Jude was recommended to me by a friend when I was on the search for an outfit to wear to my Dad’s birthday celebration. The beauty of this outfit is, it looks like a dress but it is actually a two-piece. I love that I can pair the pieces together, and wear them separately if I choose to. It’s also figure flattering with the high waist band, minimal with the two tone colours and the detail at the bottom of the skirt sold me!

6. Visu
I featured Visu in my previous Lagos Style diary here. I was particularly impressed by the pieces sent over the last time, that when I was contacted to get fitted for the new collection, I was more than happy to. Have you ever worn a piece of clothing that felt like it was made specially for you? That’s exactly how I felt with this brown dress. I’m very big on monochrome, functionality and simplicity of an outfit & this dress ticks all three boxes.

I know the general conception of Nigerian brands by consumers isn’t exactly great, but there are brands out there that are getting it right on every front. I encourage people to support the Nigerian Fashion and Style industry as that is the only way we can contribute to growth.

All these outfits are so gorgeous, Nigerian clothing brands are really doing amazing things. I’ve never heard of some of these brands so I’ll be checking them out. It’s really hard to pick a favourite outfit, I’m especially torn between the white dress, the outfit by Denike and the pinafore. Everything’s so beautiful! xx
