REVIEW – ESTÉE LAUDER DOUBLE WEAR FOUNDATION

A foundation that is dark skin friendly???

Hey guys!

I thought I’d give a full review on my favourite foundation at the moment, the Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-In-Place Makeup.

First of all, Estée Lauder claims the foundation to be “long-wearing makeup with 15-hour staying power. Looks flawless and natural, lasts through heat, humidity, non-stop activity. Won’t change color, smudge or come off on clothes. Feels lightweight and comfortable. Suitable for a look that lasts all day, without touchups

Does it perform as they claim?

I went in Sephora a few times to get samples in different shades before I decided to commit to one. I would advice anyone investing in high brand make-up to sample a few shades before committing to anything & it is also important to remember when choosing shades that your skin tone might vary depending on the season. I’m in the shade Rich Cocoa.

As we approach the warmer season, this foundation is great for oily skin as it has a matte finish, light texture and holds up over a long period of time without moving. It is also medium coverage and easily build-able without the cake-y feel. I find that it works best when used over a smooth matte primer, I personally recommend the Benefit Porefessional Primer.

Does it really last as long as they claim? YES! I have normal/combination skin and with the right primer and setting powder, it lasts an average of  10 hours without creasing or separating. I notice some shine on my t-zone later in the day but nothing a little blotting paper cannot fix.

The transfer resistance of this foundation is so high that taking it off is a little difficult. Although I have a good wash session after wiping off my make-up, I find that I struggle less when I use an oil-based (e.g coconut oil) product to wipe off my make-up before cleansing.

Because there is no pump to apply this foundation, you cannot control how much product comes out the bottle. This creates a mess as you either have to apply it to the back of your hand or straight on the foundation brush. It’s also time consuming as not everyone is patient enough to have that little fiddle session every morning. I definitely think a pump would be more beneficial and easier to handle.

If you’re on the search for a foundation with good coverage, has SPF & photographs flawlessly, then you should consider investing in this. Retails at a price of $45 CAD in Sephora.

I have been looking for foundation that is good for oily skin. I would look for a store in Lagos that sells it and try it out before committing to it. What primer did you use it with though?

    Awesome review!

Thank you for reading! I use the Benefit Porefessional primer but I’m pretty sure any matte primer will do just fine. And you can find Estée Lauder at The Nail Studio Beauty Center, 9 Bishop Aboyade Cole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

I’ve used Estée Lauder in the shade rich chesnut and I love it and I will still continue with it later . But right now I’m obsessed with Clinique stay matte oil free foundation , because of its matte finish and it’s my perfect shade.

I’ve used the Estée Lauder double wear in rich chesnut and I loved it. But right now I’m still obsessed with Clinique ever matte because it works well with my face because I have oily skin.

Hi Tomi! I think we have same taste in foundations because I use the Clinique ever matte too! It was a staple in my beauty kit till I got the Estée Lauder double wear. Still have major love for it tho..

I completely agree with your review, the foundation is amazing for oily skin however I am a combo skin type in the winter, and the thicker texture doesn’t quite work with constant flaking skin :(

Have you had this problem? X

Hey Sophie! Yes, I had this problem in the winter and I have realized that the skin needs extra preparation in the winter before applying your foundation. A good/thicker serum/moisturizer/primer is the best way to achieve a flawless base in the colder months
